Issue #61: Keep Going
Weekly curated resources for movers, creatives, and coaches.
Housekeeping: I’m making an effort to share more of how I’m going about building this project/brand. I’ve broken ground by starting to create a website (video here) but I’m also sharing a lot more on Twitter as a form of “building in public” for anyone who might be interested. If you’re also trying to develop a project, business, etc - feel free to reach out and see how I can help.
Control your consumption.
Control your daily actions.
Control your stress and emotions.
Control yourself through many ranges of motion.
Everything else, let go.

Formal Practice - intentional blocks of time “separate from the motions and distractions of our daily lives, to turn our attention towards ourselves and start exploring what's really going on with this thing I call 'me'.”
Habits - understanding the unconscious, looped shortcut made so the conscious mind can be freed to do other things
Informal Practice - integrating lessons from formal practice into our daily lives.
Diet - that which we consume ultimately becomes that which we are
Sleep - deep restoration and emotional digestion via dreams
Rhythm- aligning with the natural cycles of our environment and nature

Flynn shares a very insightful idea (with practical examples)
“Because our brains learn through association, what we see is often symbolic. When we pursue the symbol, we risk missing what is actually important…In these situations, I am chasing the shadow of something deeper. I am mistaking the sign for the signal. That's why—in the most practical way—it is important to self-reflect: To build an internal compass based on something ‘deeper’”

3 Tips For The Lost Mover by Karin Avi
How do you choose what to practice? When circumstances change or injuries keep happening, finding the line between giving up and letting go can get tricky. Here are some thoughts that hopefully help you navigate an honest practice and reevaluate it when things become less obvious.
FOLLOW YOUR PASSIONS
There are infinite ways to conduct a diverse, well rounded and fulfilling movement practice. Life is too short to follow someone else's hobbies.DANCE WITH YOUR DEMONS
Devote time to your weakest attributes. That's (by definition) where the biggest potential for growth and discovery lies at. It'll most likely keep you physically balanced and if you let go, it might become an endless source of pleasure.
HARD WORK SHOULDN'T FEEL HARD 100% OF THE TIME
There's value in overcoming difficulties, pleasure is only possible where there's real effort. But if your practice drains you more than it charges you over long periods of time, you're doing it wrong.
